EXPLORING VASQUEZ ROCKS - CA

We were just in California and ended up spending half a day adventuring around Vasquez Rocks. It was a magical day! I love it when we're able to get outside on a day like this, in the fresh spring air and exploring new things. I've been an admirer of Vasquez Rocks for a while and I didn't even know it. It played a reoccurring role in several movies and TV shows over the years - Star Trek, The Flintstones, and Friends (to name a few). I think I assumed that these rocks were in Utah or Arizona. So, I was really excited when I found out our hotel was just a few minutes away. Naturally, we planned some time to sneak away and check it out in person.

I absolutely love the excitement of exploring a new location for the first time. Every location has its own unique smell and feel to it. I can still feel the cool breeze blowing outside and beautiful blue sky. Outside adventures with my guys are a guaranteed remedy for just about anything. I always come back feeling refreshed and filled up. Once we were out of the car, Emet was immediately obsessed with the sand and gravel.

Emet wanted to collect all the rocks to bring home with him (we abided by the rules and didn't take any home with us... don't worry). The only thing he wanted to do more than collect rocks was prove that he was a big boy and climb along the trails.

I still can’t get over how beautiful these rock formations are - I felt like I was looking at another planet.

This was a super fun day. It was also the first day in California, so there was still so much promise of adventures yet to come.

What kinds of exploring do you like to do when you are traveling?
