COFFEE CREEK - CA

{8.4.16}

Every two years, my Dad's side of the family gather together for a family reunion. He comes from a large family and his siblings are scattered all throughout the U.S. Each sibling takes a turn selecting the location of the next reunion. In 2016, my uncle David (who lives in Northern California) selected the Carrville Inn located in Coffee Creek, CA.

Coffee Creek is out in the middle of nowhere and was a PERFECT location to "get away from it all." From our days relaxing by the pool soaking in the California sun, to the cool nights by the bonfire connecting with family members - the atmosphere was wonderful!

After being there for just a short time, it became obvious that this Inn carried a lot of history with it. There were books and documents available for those staying to become acquainted with the people and events connected to this area. The inn was established by James Carr during the heart of the Gold Rush as a stop for stage coaches and travelers. While this is a quiet and quaint area, during the Gold Rush there was a local population of over 2,000 people - which made for a very lively and exciting location for the inn. Just behind the inn is a cemetery, where James and his family are buried. Once we found out about the cemetery, we did a little exploring. After a short walk through the woods, we came upon the cemetery, filled with names of former owners and family who has passed away over the years. It was great to learn of the rich history contained within this lovely inn.

I especially found enjoyment on the days that we packed up gear and went hiking on nearby trails. It was such a blast to bring along Emet for these adventures. Once he was strapped into his ergo, he was ready for whatever the day had in store. One of the most memorable experiences during the hike was coming across a secluded mountain lake - it was so peaceful and serene. Our whole group (uncles, aunts, and cousins) jumped into the water and went for a swim.  It was incredibly refreshing and very memorable.

We were sad when it came time to leave, but we are looking forward to future trips to Northern California.
